Weather Discussion: Welcome Back

UPDATED BY JOEY AND FRANKIE

Welcome back. Looks like we are starting the winter weather early this year. The next few days bring a series of different waves, which will bring both rain and snow. We are very hesitant to give snow totals, because snow amounts will depend on elevation. Between now and Sunday we will see rainy, snowy, windy, and cold weather.

NAM Model

Sorry guys, but the website is giving me problems uploading the image. Here is a link that will give you the current one. NAM SNOWFALL MAP. This link will show you the updated version depending on the time you look at it. The current version as I write this at about 1:30 has Wilkes-Barre receiving 15+ inches in the next 84 hours. I disagree, keep dreaming NAM...

GFS Model

Once again I can't post the image so here is the link. GFS SNOWFALL MAP. As I write this post, the GFS currently says Wilkes-Barre will recieve 12-15 inches in the next 120 hours. (NOTE: NAM IS NEXT 84 HOURS, WHILE GFS SHOWS NEXT 120 HOURS.) I dont agree with the GFS either.

So what do I agree with?

Basic knowledge. The lowest the temperature will get the next few days will be borderline freezing. Expect to see some fat heavy snowflakes. Im not rulling out a couple of inches the next few days, but remember....

  1. Roads are warm. Will have trouble sticking
  2. We live in the valley. A few degrees make a huge difference. Don't be surprised to see higher elvations getting pounded while it rains down here.
Conclusion

It is very early in the season. Don't expect big snows the next few days. Hey, we may get lucky and pick up a few inches, but nothing tragic. We warm up next week and all of what falls will probably melt. This will be a cold and snowy winter so make sure to check back in the near future.
