STORM UPDATE and whats that next week???

January 28, 2009

We only had about 1.5 inches so far. The storm is dropping more sleet then I expected last night. Actually all local and major weather forecast predicted too much snow. If the sleet fell as all snow we would have seen a good 2 more inches. Many places are seeing a 3-6 inch snowfall, but mostly higher elevations and further north. The roads here are snow and sleet covered. We will eventually switch to freezing rain and rain later on. Tonight we may switch back to some snow before it is all said and done.

Delay tomorrow?

That seems to be the new question. Roads are bad now. The snow is blocking drainage areas on the sides of the roads, which will not allow the rain we get to get off the roads. After the storm temperatures drop fast. We will get into the lower 20's overnight. This will cause refreezing of everything that is in liquid form. A delay is possible, not 100%, but it looks like we have at least a 50% chance. We'll find out tomorrow.

We will update if anything changes.

NEXT WEEK

Early next week we may be looking at a classic nor'easter. This is the type of storms that brings heavy snows, high winds, and more then one day of school problems. Still too far away, but we are definitely going to keep a close eye on it.
